CTOnews.com, October 7 (Xinhua)-- Cyberpunk 2077, a sci-fi role-playing game developed by CD Projekt RED, has been attracting players and media attention since its release in December 2020. The game encountered a lot of technical problems and negative reviews when it was released, but the developers did not give up, but continued to provide free updates and fixes for the game, some of which were even very significant, such as the recent 2.0 update. After nearly three years of hard work, CD Projekt RED successfully turned this disappointing game into a laudable work, which, of course, cost a lot of money.

In CD Projekt's recent Investor Day presentation, Piotr Nielubowicz, chief financial officer, revealed that the company had spent 178 million Polish zloty (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB300 million) on all free follow-up updates and fixes to Cyberpunk 2077.

CDPR has previously revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 costs about $316 million and recently revealed that the total development and marketing budget for Cyberpunk 2077's expansion Shadow of the past is close to $85 million. All in all, CDPR's total spending on Cyberpunk 2077 is close to $450 million (currently about 3.29 billion yuan).

Although the game encountered a lot of problems when it was released, it still achieved great commercial success. Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 2500 copies worldwide, while Shadow of the past sold more than 3 million copies in its first week.
