Tu Yuan Pixabay, for reference only, the project is code-named "JUPITER" and its full name is Joint Undertaking Pioneer for Innovative and Transformative Exascale Research. (CTOnews.com Note: to the effect that "pioneers of innovative and transformative ultra-large-scale research joint commitment"). The project was announced by the European High performance Computing Joint Project (EuroHPC JU) last year and launched a tender in January this year.
The JUPITER project will cost up to 500 million euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 3.845 billion yuan), the computer body will cost 273 million euros (currently about 2.099 billion yuan), will use the Arm architecture SiPearl Rhea processor and Nvidia accelerator technology, and will be run by the Ulrich supercomputing center in Germany.
JUPITER aims to support the development of complex systems and high-precision models, which will help to solve problems in the fields of climate change, pandemics and fusion energy, and make AI and massive data analysis more widely used.
CTOnews.com previously reported that the European High performance Computing Joint Project announced in the first half of last year that Germany would bring the first publicly available European 10 billion supercomputer mainframe, as well as four other smaller but still powerful supercomputing systems.
Jupiter will be a "joint venture pioneer of innovation and transformative tens of billions of research". The system will be launched next year in a specially designed building at the Forschungszentrum J ü lich Research Centre, operated by the J ü lich Supercomputing Center (JSC), alongside existing Juwels and Jureca supercomputers.
