Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, October 5, announced plans to stop production of the second-generation Xeon Extensible (Cascade Lake) processor according to Intel's official product change notice (PCN).

Intel has launched the fourth generation of Xeon Extensible (Sapphire Rapids) processors, and Cascade Lake was released in 2019, two generations away from existing products.

CTOnews.com Note: Intel introduced Cascade Lake in 2019 to replace Skylake processors and is manufactured using 14nm technology, including Cascade Lake-X for HEDT (High-End Desktop, high-end desktop processors), Cascade Lake-W for workstations, and Cascade Lake-SP and Cascade Lake-AP for servers.

Intel stopped production of the Cascade Lake-X and Cascade Lake-W series in July and is now further halting production of second-generation Xeon Extensible (Cascade Lake) processors.

Reviewing the development of Cascade Lake, it can be described as "ill-fated". On the one hand, it is under the pressure of AMD 7nm's EPYC Rome chip, on the other hand, the series CPU is always in the 14nm stage, forcing it to stop producing some SKU and reduce the price.

Intel announced the discontinuation of production of 68 Cascade Lake processors in its PCN document, and customers who still need the processor need to submit an order to their local Intel representative by April 26, 2024.

Intel has promised that the last order for Cascade Lake Xeon will be shipped by October 23, 2026, so it will not disappear completely from the shelves in the next few years.
