CTOnews.com October 5, Samsung Electronics announced today that Samsung Health App has been approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) to use sleep apnea and will be used in Galaxy Watch watches in South Korea early next year.

According to screenshots from ▲ Samsung's official website, by using Galaxy Watch's BioActive sensor, sleep apnea can monitor blood oxygen levels during sleep and identify moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea by analyzing how the detected blood oxygen changes to apnea / hypopnea, and then estimate the apnea-shallow breathing index (AHI). Users only need to track sleep twice in 10 days, each time more than 4 hours of sleep, to determine whether they have these symptoms.

According to CTOnews.com, sleep apnea is considered to be a common but serious disease that causes people to stop breathing while sleeping, leading to disruption of oxygen supply, loss of sleep quality, and other health complications such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke or cognitive impairment. In the United States, about 25 percent of men and 10 percent of women suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, three of whom are unable to recognize their symptoms or seek treatment, according to the National Sleep Foundation.
