CTOnews.com, October 4 (Xinhua)-- Nissan's EV360 battery plant near Sundlun in the UK is developing rapidly and is expected to start producing low-cobalt lithium batteries by the middle of this century.

Autocar quoted Nissan insiders as saying that the plant is expected to eventually produce 35GWh batteries, which is equivalent to 1/3 of the battery capacity needed in the UK in 2030 (estimated 100GWh).

CTOnews.com found that the first phase of the new plant, which has an area of 23 football fields, is expected to begin mass production in 2026, with initial battery capacity of up to 9GWh, enough to meet the needs of the next-generation Ariya EV that Nissan will produce in Sundlun.

In addition, Nissan has plenty of room to further expand the size of its EV360 plant, and Nissan has just announced that all European cars will be electrified in the future and will launch 27 electric models worldwide by 2030, including 19 pure electric models.

At the same time, Nissan announced that the production date of its solid-state battery design, called ASSB, has been advanced. The company says the new battery technology will double the existing energy density and charge three times as fast as the current one.

Nissan expects to open a pilot solid-state battery plant next year and improve its full-scale manufacturing process by 2026. The carmaker has also promised to launch at least one mass-produced model using ASSB batteries worldwide by 2028.
