According to CTOnews.com query, 10 units of the first phase of the project have been fully connected to the grid in December 2021, becoming the first ultra-high altitude wind power development technology research and technology demonstration project in Xizang Autonomous region, and the first wind power project to be incorporated into Xizang's main grid.

On August 3 this year, the first batch of five wind turbines with a single unit capacity of 3.6 MW in the second phase of the project were successfully connected to the grid. After the second phase of the project is fully put into operation, the annual power generation of the wind farm will exceed 200 million kilowatt-hours, which can meet the electricity consumption of nearly 140000 surrounding families for a year.

It is understood that at present, the energy structure of Xizang Autonomous region is mainly hydropower and photovoltaic power generation, with hydropower accounting for 89.81% of the total electricity generation and solar power accounting for 7.73%. It has the characteristics of "full summer and lack of winter, full day and night." The maximum load of the central Tibet power grid generally occurs in winter (the maximum load in November and December).

Cuomei County, Shannan City, has high wind speed in winter and spring and good wind energy resources. The maximum power generation of Cuomeizhe ancient wind farm in a year is often in winter, and the peak period of power consumption at night is also the best time for wind farms to generate electricity, which can complement hydropower to a certain extent, which is conducive to optimizing the power structure and alleviating the insufficient power supply of Xizang power grid in winter.

According to Wang Liang, head of the Cuomeizhe ancient wind power project of the three Gorges Group, on the basis of the successful construction of the first phase of the project, the project team increased investment in scientific and technological innovation, and the second phase of the project all adopted models with a single unit capacity of more than 3 megawatts, of which the maximum unit capacity reached 3.6 megawatts, which can effectively improve the utilization efficiency of local wind resources. The diameter of 3.6 MW fan impeller is 160 meters, and the center of the fan hub is 90 meters from the ground. it has the technical characteristics of high altitude adaptability, UV protection, lightning protection, low temperature resistance, ice resistance and so on, and can operate stably for a long time in harsh natural environment.

The three Gorges of China said that the smooth integration of the Cuomezegu wind power project will lay the foundation for the follow-up large-scale serial development of wind power, will help build a multi-energy complementary base in ultra-high altitude areas, and provide a new path for Shannan City to achieve rural revitalization and promote high-quality economic and social development, which is of great significance for Xizang Autonomous region to achieve energy supply and the goal of "carbon peak, carbon neutralization".
