The 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry honors the discovery and development of quantum dots. Quantum dots are so small that they determine their unique properties.

These particles have unique properties, and now light from them is emitted on TV screens and LED lights. They can catalyze chemical reactions, and their bright light can illuminate tumor tissue for surgeons.

Researchers currently mainly use quantum dots to create colored light. They believe that in the future, quantum dots can contribute to flexible electronics, micro-sensors, thinner solar cells, and may even be used to encrypt quantum communications.

In 1993, the third Nobel Prize winner, Moungi Bawendi, revolutionized the manufacturing methods of quantum dots to achieve a very high level of quality, which is also an important prerequisite for the widespread use of quantum dots in nanotechnology.
