Beijing time on the afternoon of October 4, three people familiar with the matter said that after receiving an initial investment of $1.25 billion from Amazon, Anthropic, an AI company founded by former OpenAI employees, is still in talks with investors, including Google, to raise at least $2 billion more.

Anthropic, the number one rival to OpenAI, the developer of artificial intelligence chat robot ChatGPT, received a $4 billion investment from Amazon last week.

After receiving Amazon's investment, Anthropic is still in talks with investors to raise at least $2 billion more, people familiar with the matter said today.

Google is expected to participate in the current round of financing for Anthropic, according to people familiar with the matter. Including new investments, Anthropic expects the round to be valued at between $20 billion and $30 billion.

In addition to Google, Anthropic has contacts with several sovereign wealth funds and institutional investors.

People familiar with the matter also stressed that as negotiations continue, the terms of the final deal may change and the specific size of the financing has not yet been finalized.

Five years ago, OpenAI offered Amazon an offer to cooperate, but it was turned down. Later, OpenAI moved to Microsoft's arms, leading Microsoft to lead the current wave of generative artificial intelligence.

To catch up, Amazon last week invested heavily in Anthropic, OpenAI's number one rival. Under the agreement, Amazon will invest $4 billion in Anthropic to compete with competitors such as Microsoft and Google in artificial intelligence.
