"Birds" and "Airplanes" have been added to "AF Subject Detection Options" in the Photo and Video Capture menu.

According to Nikon officials, the "Birds" option improves overall bird detection performance. In addition to improving detection and autofocus performance against complex and high-contrast backgrounds such as forests and mountains, this option also adds the ability to quickly detect birds in a variety of states, including flight, roosting, and even uniquely looking birds. Tracking performance for fast-moving birds has also been improved to provide a smooth shooting experience, so that users do not miss critical moments when shooting birds.

4.10 The firmware also adds the same "Airplane" option built into the Nikon Z 8, which reliably detects aircraft regardless of size. This option enhances the ability to detect dim scenes and scenes with complex backgrounds.

In addition, a dedicated bird theme detection option will be added to the Nikon Z8 firmware update scheduled for release in the first half of 2024. The Z 8 camera already offers an airplane option in the initial version. Other functional improvements are also planned.
