CTOnews.com, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) China Unicom's series of "mobile millimeter wave communication outfield test" has been successfully implemented in Jiangxinzhou, Nanjing, according to the official Weibo report of China Unicom.

CTOnews.com learned from official sources that the test used a four-rotor UAV equipped with a tracking and pointing system and an air wireless communication base station, which flew according to the planned route, while establishing a narrow beam directional millimeter wave connection with the ground mobile base station with carrier frequency 84GHz, to build a mobile wireless base station based on the UAV and provide high-speed wireless network coverage without optical fiber guarantee.

In the experiment, the relevant personnel also carried out a "large maneuver test" to verify the dynamic communication capability of the high bandwidth millimeter wave link of the UAV under the condition of high maneuverability, and the communication rate bandwidth of the backhaul link between the base station and the base station controller meets the 5G communication requirements.

According to the evaluation of on-site observation expert group, the test space communication distance, communication bandwidth and the number of mobile nodes are all in the leading level, and the test results have strong scientific research value and industrial prospects, and can serve mobile communication guarantee, emergency rescue and other applications, and is expected to provide new solutions for mobile communications and emergency communication capabilities in disaster areas in the future.
