CTOnews.com Earlier today, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella testified in the DOJ trial against Google. The Justice Department has launched an investigation into Google, accusing the company of using its position to form a monopoly in the search industry.

Although the hearing was not made public, Bloomberg obtained some clips of Nadella's testimony before the judge. At the hearing, Nadella mentioned that Microsoft has spent about $100 billion (CTOnews.com note: currently about 731 billion yuan) to build and develop its Bing search engine. He also noted that while Microsoft trails Google in market share, it believes it can contribute to the Internet search industry.

I think search or internet search is the biggest category of software. We're a very, very low share player, but we're going to stick with it because we think it's a software category that can contribute.

Nadella also told Google lawyers that Microsoft "is competing with companies that own 97 percent of the shares."

Nadella also talked about user preferences for services, Reuters reported. He noted that switching search engines would be easier on the desktop and more complicated on the phone. This relates to Microsoft executive Jonathan Tinter's testimony last week that Microsoft had to make Google the default search engine on its Surface Duo smartphone in order to get an Android license from Google.
