Thank CTOnews.com netizens soft media Xinyou 1933769 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, October 3 (Xinhua) according to the latest data released by Canalys, global electric vehicle sales rose 49 percent to 6.2 million units in the first half of 2023, of which Chinese mainland accounted for 55 percent of the market share, with sales reaching 3.4 million vehicles.

"although there are many electric vehicles to choose from in China, no electric vehicle has a market share of more than 10 per cent," said Jason Low, chief analyst at ▲ Tuyuan Canalys, Canalys. BYD is China's leading electric car brand, but the price war led by Tesla has always been a challenge for smaller brands. "

Low added: "the price war allows more automakers to focus on cost reduction, but too much emphasis on cost reduction will lead to less investment in new technologies. With the development of electrification and intelligent technology, cars have moved from mature industrial products to iterative technology products. Therefore, automakers must rapidly improve their software and hardware capabilities."

According to Canalys, Europe is the world's second largest electric vehicle market, accounting for 24% of the market, with shipments of 1.5 million vehicles. In Europe, the adoption rate of electric vehicles has risen sharply, up 34 per cent from a year earlier, a significant leap from 9 per cent in the first half of 2022; the US has a 13 per cent market share, with sales of 815000 vehicles in the first half of the year, a year-on-year growth rate of 97 per cent, up from 62 per cent in the first half of 2022.

Canalys expects electric vehicle sales to account for 18 per cent of the total market by 2023, with global sales of more than 14 million vehicles, an increase of 39 per cent over 2022.

CTOnews.com learned from Canalys that BYD sold more than 1.3 million pure electric and PHEV models in the first half of 2023, up 104 percent from the same period last year and entering the top three in Chinese mainland, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Tesla sold more than 935000 vehicles, up 65 percent from the same period last year, and entered the top three in Europe, North America and Chinese mainland.

Among other brands, SAIC MG ranks second in Southeast Asia and top three in Australia, India and the UK; Hyundai ranks third in North America and has a strong influence in South Korea; and Tata Motors leads the Indian market with shipments of more than 30,000 vehicles.
