CTOnews.com reported on October 3 that the 74th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) was successfully held in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan. During this period, the National Space Administration issued an announcement on opportunities for international cooperation in the Chang'e-8 mission.

China's lunar exploration project adheres to the principle of "equality and mutual benefit, peaceful use and win-win cooperation", opens Chang'e-8 international cooperation opportunities to the international community, and welcomes countries and international organizations to join in to carry out mission-level, system-level and single-machine cooperation, officials said.

This year, China will comprehensively promote the fourth phase of the lunar exploration project, which is planned to include Chang'e-6, Chang'e-7 and Chang'e-8 missions.

According to reports, Chang'e-8, an important task of the fourth phase of the lunar exploration project, is composed of a lander, a lunar rover and an intelligent lunar robot, and is scheduled to be launched before 2028.

The exploration and research of lunar multi-physical fields and regional geological profiles, lunar-based earth observation and research, lunar in-situ sample analysis and resource utilization, and small-scale closed terrestrial ecosystem experiments and research on lunar surface environment will be carried out. The basic type of lunar scientific research station will be formed together with Chang'e-7.

The official said that the international cooperation of the Chang'e-8 mission will give priority to mission-level cooperation with developer interaction and joint exploration, and lunar robots with basic operation capabilities on the lunar surface. and other complementary scientific payloads and scientifically innovative cooperative projects.

In addition, the Chang'e-8 lander will open 200kg payload resources, and the mass of independent modules will not exceed 100kg, which will be used to carry out system-level and stand-alone cooperation projects.

CTOnews.com Note: the deadline for the application of the letter of intent for the international cooperation project of the Chang'e-8 mission is December 31, 2023. It is planned to complete the preliminary selection in April 2024 and the final selection in September to confirm the cooperation project. The National Space Administration will continue to issue relevant instructions in the future.
