Sundar Pichai said it was the first Chromebook made in India and would make it easier for Indian students to access affordable security computing.

According to a press release from Hewlett-Packard, the partnership will promote a shared vision to support India's digital education ecosystem and help more students improve their learning by providing affordable, secure and high-quality computing equipment to educational authorities, schools and institutions.

CTOnews.com Inquiry has learned that the Chromebook devices will be produced at the Flex plant near Chennai, India, where HP has been producing a range of laptops and desktops since August 2020. Production of Hewlett-Packard India Chromebook will begin on October 2, 2023, and will meet the demand for economical PC.

Driven by the "Make in India" development plan, manufacturing in India has indeed made great progress. According to the latest report released by market research agency Counterpoint Research, India has built more than 2 billion mobile phones between 2014 and 2022, driven by the "Make in India" development plan, with a compound annual growth rate of 23%.
