Apple's just-launched iPhone15 finally gave up its Lightning and replaced it with a standard Type-C. It is also said to be the biggest bright spot besides the 3nm chip A17.
With regard to the replacement of the iPhone data port, some self-media regard it as a victory for Huawei, which is sometimes called "Huawei mouth" in China, but it is actually a victory for the European Parliament. On October 4, 2022, the European Parliament passed a bill requiring all new portable smart devices to use USB Type-C 's charging interface from the end of 2024.
As a result, Apple confirmed last year that all phones launched in 2024 will use the Type-C interface. This time iPhone15, as the main sales force in 2024, will be changed to Type-C again.
But is it just because of an EU ban?
What on earth is Type-C?
What charm does it have to make the European Parliament fall for it?
Today, let's get to know the leader of this unified interface alliance-USB Type C.
What is USB? Type C as a form of USB, let's first take a look at USB, a very commonly used data interface.
With the emergence of the computer, it needs to be connected with many external devices, such as mouse, keyboard, printer, scanner, camera, mobile phone and so on. As shown in the figure below, there are so many interfaces on a desktop, such as the PS / 2 interface, VGA interface, network cable port, headphone port, etc., used by the old keyboard and mouse. USB interface as one of them, at first we often used it to connect U disk, because the full name of this U disk is USB Disk. Now it is more and more widely used. Mouse, keyboard, headset and so on can be connected and communicated through USB interface.
USB is the acronym of Universal Serial Bus, which translates to Universal Serial bus in Chinese. It is not only an interface form, but also a data transmission standard. As early as 1994, Compaq, DEC, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NEC and Nortel jointly developed the data interface form to replace the original parallel interface and serial interface.
The serial interface bus USB interface standard is issued by USB-IF, an organization of USB developer Forum. So far, it has developed from USB1.0 published in 1996 to USB4.0 now. Its transmission rate is increasing continuously. At present, the maximum transmission rate of USB4.0 is 40Gbps, which is about 20, 000 times faster than 1.5Mbps in the earliest USB1.0 period. With the acceleration of transmission speed, USB is used more and more widely, almost unifying the data transmission.
What are the interface forms of USB? USB as a serial data protocol, its data transmission can not be separated from physical structure. To date, the USB IF standards organization has provided a variety of USB interface forms, mainly Type A Magi Type B Magi Type C, and its miniaturized version-USB Mini A Magi USB Mini B J USB Micro C and USB Micro B Supper Speed and so on.
Type AType An is our commonly used computer data interface, also known as USB A, and its interface form is shown in the following figure. The USB TYPE-A connector is located on the host controller of the computer and hub and is a flat rectangular interface. The interface holds the connection in place through friction, so that the user can easily connect and disconnect. TYPE-A connectors are not round pins, but use flat contacts that can withstand continuous connection and disassembly. Type A slot connectors provide "downstream" connections for host controllers and hubs only.
USB Type A there is one thing to note here is that from USB1.0 to USB3.0 all support Type An interface form, its appearance looks the same, but the internal pin function is different, here we should pay attention to distinguish, usually, we can observe the USB internal plastic color to distinguish, white is generally USB1.0 or USB1.1, black is USB2.0, blue 9 line is USB3.0.

The interface shapes of Type BTypeB and TypeA are different. The interior of TypeB is square and the outside is trapezoidal. The structure is sturdy, but the volume is also relatively large. Usually the printer we use is in the form of this data interface.

Before the emergence of TypeC, USB mini and Micro developed USB Mini version and USB Micro version in order to meet the needs of miniaturization. These two versions have been widely used in electronic devices, such as the USB Mini series, which is widely used in mobile hard drives and digital cameras.
And the most widely used USB Micro interface on mobile phones, which is flatter than the Mini and can support thinner phone designs, but its tongue is also more fragile, compared with many friends who have the experience of breaking their tongues because of the reverse direction.
Lightning port Lighting mentions miniaturized applications, so you have to talk about Apple's lighting port. Since using the lightning port, I can charge my phone with my eyes closed at night.
In 2012, Apple launched a unique lighting interface for 8-pin, commonly known as Lightning Port or Apple Port in China. This lightning interface not only has a strong structure, but also supports random insertion of pros and cons. The feeling of blind insertion is the envy of the little friends who use USB micro.
There are 8 pin on both sides of the Lighting port, which looks exactly the same and is very suitable for blind insertion. However, from the definition of pin, there are still some differences in AB faces. So how can both positive and negative inserts work properly?
I have to admire the design ability of the inventor of the lighting interface. The following figure is the schematic diagram of lighting. From the diagram, we can see that 1 foot on A side is connected with 4 feet on B side, 4 feet on A side are connected with 5 feet on B side, 5 feet on A side are connected with 8 feet on B side, and 8 feet on A side are connected with 1 foot on B side. This internal structure determines that the user can ensure the normal operation of the data cable no matter which side is plugged in.
But Apple's closeness is very familiar to everyone, so let other manufacturers also use Apple's lighting, Apple is really making money with its eyes closed. You know, a linghting charger with a cost of a few yuan can sell for hundreds of yuan on Apple's official website, and only the MFI license of lighting costs three or four US dollars, which is far more than the production cost of a charging cord.
USB developer Forum is nerve-racking for this, I also want to save face.
A few months after Type C launched the lighting interface, USB IF launched the USB3.1 standard at the American Consumer Electronics Show in January 2013, followed by a new USB interface, the Type C interface, which supports the highest transmission rate 10GB/s. From the appearance, Type C and the original A, B is very different, the size of the socket end is about 8.3mmX2.5mm thin design; support from both sides can be plugged into the "forward and reverse plug" function, can withstand 10,000 times of repeated plug; with Type-c connector standard specification cable can pass through 3A current, while also supports beyond the existing USB power supply capacity of "USB PD", can provide up to 100W of power.
From then on, you don't have to worry about not being able to get in.
But friends take a closer look at this type-C and lighting, whether there is a kind of "reverse research and development" suspicion. Isn't this pulling a cable from Apple's lighting socket?
Anyway, the first time I saw this kind of C port, I had an impulse to plug the Apple charging cord into it.
Anyway, no one can tell about the science and technology, especially for RF connectors, a definition of end face size can generate a patent, which can monopolize the production and sales of such joints. For us consumers, easy to use is the last word.
Unlike the 8 pin,Type C on one side of lighting, there are 12 pin on one side, which is 4 more than lighting. These four roots also solve many problems found in the upper layer of lighting, such as low charging power, slow data transmission and so on.

But the benefits of switching to TypeC are also great, and the transfer speed is also soaring to 20 times the file transfer speed. TypeC has become one of the most concerned highlights after the 3nm chip A17.
With the strong support of various advantages and backstage, USB Type C has finally completed the unified hegemony and will dominate the whole martial arts in the future! The time when all the lines will be settled in the future is finally coming!
But why is Type C also called Huawei mouth? After Type C was launched in 2014, the earliest application in China was Letv's mobile phone. Letv's super mobile phone 1s, released in April 2015, adopted Type C interface. ZUK, Xiaomi, Meizu and Hammer also launched TYPE-C phones in 2015. But Huawei's P9 phone launched in March 2016 only adopted Type C for the first time, almost a year later than Letv. But Huawei is far more well-known than Letv, and Huawei has adopted Type C in all its post-P9 phones. Xiaomi uses TypeC only in Xiaomi phones, while Micro An is still used in Hongmi phones.
Huawei as the representative of domestic high-tech, since lighting is called Apple mouth, then Type C is called "Huawei mouth" and "well-deserved". If it is according to who has already used it, should it be called Le Viewport, so that God Jia Yueting will be overjoyed.
With more and more people's understanding of Type C, more and more mobile phones use Type C, and the name "C port" is more and more.
