CTOnews.com, September 30, Japan's Ministry of economy, Trade and Industry is increasing the subsidy to Micron's Hiroshima plant from US $320 million to US $1.29 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 9.417 billion yuan) to strengthen the domestic semiconductor supply chain, according to the Nikkei News. For the Japanese government, the money is part of a broader plan to invest billions of yen in chip companies aimed at strengthening Japan's semiconductor capabilities.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that Meguiar plans to start mass production of complex memory chips using the 1 γ process (the third generation of 10 nm nodes) that rely on extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography by 2026, so the company needs to get funding as soon as possible.

Japan's Ministry of economy, Trade and Industry's huge two-year budget of 2 trillion yen ($13.385 billion) is clearly spent on subsidies related to semiconductor investment. Among them, the TSMC Kumamoto factory received up to 476 billion yen ($3.1857 billion) in funding, and the cooperation between Kumamoto and Xisu received subsidies worth 92.9 billion yen ($621 million).

The huge capital injection into semiconductor companies highlights Japan's commitment to reducing its dependence on overseas chip suppliers and rebuilding the domestic semiconductor industry. Japan aims to ensure a steady and strong internal supply of key technical components by strengthening domestic capacity to avoid potential risks associated with international supply chain disruptions.
