CTOnews.com, Sept. 30 (Xinhua)-- Apple uses Tiny QR Code QR codes to etch iPhone screens to track the number of unqualified screens from suppliers, according to technology media The Information.

It is reported that there are two QR barcodes on each iPhone screen, one of which is located on the inner border of the screen, while the other is very small, which is described as only 0.2mm.

Apple has spent millions developing a bar code system and installed laser scanners at Lance Technology and Bourne Optics, which make iPhone cover glass for Apple.

Through the bar code system, Apple can calculate every piece of glass produced by Lance Technology and Bourne Optics and know exactly how much material is wasted due to defects.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that before the bar code system was implemented, three out of every 10 cover glass of the two companies were thrown away, and after implementation, suppliers have reduced waste to 10 per cent. Apple is currently paying for production, reducing the error rate and saving it hundreds of millions of dollars.
