CTOnews.com, September 30 (Xinhua)-- the British Competition and Market Authority (CMA) said it was investigating Qualcomm's acquisition of Israeli company Autotalks to determine whether the acquisition would hurt competition in the UK market.

CTOnews.com reported in May that Qualcomm hopes to deepen its automotive business by strengthening its Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio through the acquisition of Autotalks and speeding up the adoption of V2X technology.

At present, Autotalks mainly produces special chips in the field of self-driving, which are used in the V2X communication technology of intelligent vehicles, which aims to improve road safety.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) launched an in-depth investigation into the acquisition of Israeli car chipmaker Autotalks by chip maker Qualcomm in August.

In an effort to allay potential concerns about the deal, Qualcomm, in announcing its acquisition of Autotalks, stressed that the deal was supported by carmakers and parts makers, including Volkswagen, General Motors, Renault, Continental and Samsung's Harman International. However, the deal was also opposed by anonymous complainants, with foreign media saying that one of the complainants was the chipmaker MediaTek.
