Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen ZKSen for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, September 29, according to CCTV news, on September 27, the circular array solar radio imaging telescope, one of the landmark equipment of the Space Environment Foundation Integrated Monitoring Network (Meridian Project Phase II), a major national scientific and technological infrastructure, successfully passed the process test.

▲ Image Source CCTV News Circular Array Solar Radio Imaging Telescope (hereinafter referred to as Circular Array), located in Gatong Town, Daocheng County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, 3820 meters above sea level, led by the National Space Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, covers an area of about 1 square kilometers and consists of 313 parabolic antennas with a diameter of 6 meters, evenly distributed on a circle with a diameter of 1 kilometer. it is the largest comprehensive aperture radio telescope in the world. It is called "Thousand Eye beads". The telescope works in the radio frequency band of 150MHz-450MHz to observe the solar burst by imaging and spectral observation.

"Thousand Eye beads" can monitor not only the various eruptive activities of the sun, but also the process of solar storms entering the interplanetary, which plays an important role in understanding the mechanism of solar burst and the law of solar-terrestrial propagation, and predicting the influence of solar activity on the earth.

The process test shows that the circular array solar radio imaging telescope has achieved continuous and stable solar radio imaging and spectrum observation with a maximum field of view of 10 solar radii, and each technical index meets or exceeds the requirements of the preliminary design report.

As previously reported by CTOnews.com, the second phase of the Meridian Project in 2019 was approved by the state to start construction, and in the same year, the local project supported by the Sichuan provincial government for circular array solar radio imaging telescopes was approved and construction began. During the construction, the project team creatively adopted the "three-step" construction plan of 2-unit system development, 16-unit verification development and 313-unit large-scale system construction, which effectively promoted the research and development work.
