It is reported that the Police Agency commissioned the non-governmental organization "Network Patrol Center" (CPC) to introduce the AI system, using natural language processing technology to analyze the content of posts according to the context to screen out harmful information that may be related to crime. At present, the main targets of monitoring are the video briefing and comment areas of X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.

CPC will communicate the collected information to another civil society organization, the Internet Hotline Center (IHC). If IHC thinks the post is illegal or harmful, it will entrust webmasters and providers to delete it, but there is no coercive force.

The move comes against the backdrop of the shooting of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the growing problem of "illegal workers" in July last year.
