In recent years, with the rapid popularization of 3D sensor and artificial intelligence technology, biometric technology has been applied to more and more intelligent devices and become a common way of identity authentication. The international standardization research team, jointly formed by Ant Group and multiple units, took more than three years to compile. It aims to provide a series of standardized and rational biometric security solutions for the industry.

Among them, two international standards, "biometric recognition performance evaluation: face recognition" and "biometric recognition performance evaluation: fingerprint recognition", provide a general test system for face recognition and fingerprint recognition for the first time. Multiple test levels are defined to support different types of equipment. Through this system, manufacturers or certification bodies can build a safe, low-cost, industry-recognized biometric testing system for intelligent devices, by changing different light, angles, prosthesis materials or processes, attack methods, etc., evaluate the security and accuracy of biometrics, and guard against possible risks such as deep forgery, presentation attacks, photo activation, countering samples, cracking injection, etc.

In addition, it has become a consensus that multimodal fusion is the future of biometrics. At present, the single modal recognition technology, including face recognition, has tended to the extreme. Through the multimodal fusion technology, the algorithm of fusing multiple human biometrics and verifying each other in a variety of ways can achieve more accurate identification and greatly reduce the risk of being attacked.

This time, the international standard of multimodal fusion for biometric identification is released at the same time, which standardizes the technical requirements of multimodal fusion. That is to say, a set of standardized application criteria is formed, which involves technical framework, integration level, business process, functional requirements, performance requirements, security requirements and so on. Through this standard, the industry can establish a safe biometric identification multimodal fusion system, greatly improve the security level of biometric identification and identity authentication, and promote the innovation and application prosperity of artificial intelligence technology in various industries.

The formulation of standards is the only way to standardize and promote the application of new technologies.
