According to the latest news, Microsoft is developing its own artificial intelligence model in an attempt to reduce its dependence on OpenAI. This decision is largely due to the rising cost of running advanced artificial intelligence models.

It was reported last month that OpenAI was in a potential financial crisis and could even go bankrupt by the end of 2024. It is reported that OpenAI costs about $700000 a day to run its artificial intelligence service ChatGPT alone. Although the company is trying to make money through GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, it has not yet generated enough revenue to break even.

A current employee and another recently resigned former employee told the media that a senior Microsoft executive had instructed some of the developers to develop in-house conversational artificial intelligence robots. Currently, the executive manages 1500 R & D staff at Microsoft.

Microsoft wants its internal large language model to be cheaper and smaller than OpenAI's, although it may not be as good as ChatGPT in terms of performance, according to people familiar with the matter.

Microsoft's product team is already working to integrate internally developed artificial intelligence models into products such as Bing Chat, people familiar with the matter added.

OpenAI and Microsoft have yet to comment.

Microsoft has made no secret of its partnership with OpenAI. In 2019, Microsoft invested $1 billion in OpenAI. After the ChatGPT release, Microsoft invested another $10 billion in the company.

Microsoft has integrated OpenAI's artificial intelligence technology into its flagship products, including search engine Bing.
