[Shanghai, China, September 28, 2023] KubeCon + Cloud NativeCon + OpenSource Summit China 2023, a global open source event jointly sponsored by Linux Foundation and Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), was held at Shanghai Transnational Purchasing Convention and Exhibition Center on September 26-28. As a global cloud native leader and a global pioneer in open source ecological construction, Huawei hopes to provide a better choice for the world by working together to build a smart world base with open source. Ren Xudong, chief open source liaison officer of Huawei and director of the CNCF Foundation, proposed in the keynote speech "+ Open Source, leaping up Digital Productivity" that with the development of the IT industry, the software development model has gone from free software and open source software to a new open source ecological paradigm of group intelligence model.

In the keynote speech on September 28, Huang Xun, director of Huawei Cloud original Services, shared Huawei Cloud's latest developments in the cloud native field and technological innovation achievements.

With the vigorous development of cloud native technology, cloud native has become a consensus of enterprise digital transformation. At present, more than 80% of Huawei cloud customers have adopted cloud native technology. Taking Huawei terminal cloud as an example, through the comprehensive implementation of cloud native technology, the utilization of resources has been optimized to 40%, and the resource allocation rate has been increased to 87%. At present, Huawei's original computing power has accounted for more than 30%, and Huawei's cloud AI computing power has also been fully biochemized.

HuaWeiYun believes that there will be three in-depth development trends of cloud native technology: ubiquity, Serverless and intelligence. The ubiquity of cloud native computing power is concentrated on the ubiquity of distributed cloud native businesses and underlying platforms, so that the ecology is interconnected and the experience is imperceptible. Serverless of cloud native computing power can configure the optimal policy for users in real time, allowing users to focus more on the optimization of business and load. Cloud native computing power intelligence is an AI-driven cloud native platform, which achieves full-stack intelligent features such as intelligent scheduling, intelligent operation and maintenance.

Huawei Cloud continues its open source innovation and develops with the global cloud native community. In recent years, Huawei Cloud has successively opened up KubeEdge, Volcano, Karmada and other projects, which have been widely concerned, supported and used in the industry. With the joint efforts of global developers, the Karmada multi-cloud orchestration project officially reached incubation maturity in September 2023, which means CNCF's multi-dimensional recognition of the project, and once again reflects Huawei Cloud's concept of truly practicing open source, embracing open source, and sharing advanced technologies with global developers.

In addition, Huang also shared three key elements needed for the evolution of cloud native to Serverless: Serverless computing engine, Serverless traffic management and Serverless load management. At this conference, Huawei Cloud officially opened up the Serverless traffic management project Kmesh. As a kernel-level native cloud traffic governance framework with high performance, low overhead, security and reliability, Kmesh offloads L4 and L7 capabilities to the kernel, resulting in a 50% and 60% improvement in forwarding performance and a 70% reduction in overhead.

At the meeting, Wang Zefeng, head of Huawei Yunyun original open source, shared the "large-scale cloud native practice of Huawei terminal cloud service". Through the mixed-part capabilities such as resource scheduling, rebalancing and QoS guarantee provided by Volcano, the terminal cloud optimizes the resource utilization and greatly improves the operation efficiency of the platform under the premise of business reliability and stability.

In the terminal cloud platform, Volcano provides the compatibility of Kubernetes native scheduling functions, chooses Bin-packing as the main strategy, and provides a balance algorithm that takes into account multiple resource types, which optimizes resource scheduling to the maximum extent. At the same time, under the condition of ensuring the minimum impact on the business, the defragmentation and resource water level control are completed through the rescheduling capability of Volcano. Moreover, with the enhanced QoS guarantee mechanism at the operating system level, when the traffic peak comes, high-priority services can quickly obtain the resources they need through preemption to ensure availability. The relevant features involved are already provided in the Volcano project, and developers can try them out by getting the latest version of the community.
