CTOnews.com, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) Tesla's Megapack battery factory in Sydney, Australia broke out at 07:45 local time on Tuesday night and is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

CTOnews.com Note: the Megapack is one of the largest battery plants in Australia, operated by renewable energy and storage developer Genex Power, and has a total of 40 Megapack 2.0 devices in-house.

The fire broke out in a device nicknamed "Big Bessie", and nearby residents reported hearing loud explosions, colorful flames and the smell of burning plastic.

Genex Power said in a press release that when the fire was first reported, no one was at the scene and there were no casualties. After arriving at the scene, the fire brigade took corresponding isolation measures to control the fire and let the battery device burn out spontaneously.

Queensland firefighters are currently monitoring the gas situation nearby, and Commander John Platt says local residents do not need to worry about air quality.
