According to news in the afternoon of September 28, Beijing time, US social media platform X CEO Lina Yaccarino said on Wednesday that the company would turn a profit by 2024.

Yakarino revealed this information when attending the Code conference hosted by Vox Media. It was the 100th day of her tenure as X CEO. In an interview, Mr. Yakarino defended Elon Musk's leadership of the company.

Mr Yakarino's autonomy in the position and the appeal of X to advertisers, who have been cautious about the platform's fast-changing and Mr Musk's controversial personal image, have been questioned.

"Company X has unparalleled speed of change and ambition." Yakarino said.

A third-party market research company previously estimated that the number of active users of the X app had dropped to the 25th in the United States, even behind the Samsung clock app. Faced with the problem, Ms Yacarino said there was a "good trend" in key indicators of X user usage time, but she did not disclose details.

She added that 1500 advertisers had returned to the platform in the past 12 weeks, and 90 per cent of the largest advertisers had returned to X.

Although Yakarino says the company can turn a profit next year, X still faces a lot of lawsuits. For example, the company is accused of failing to pay office rent on time and severance pay for thousands of laid-off employees.

Since Musk bought Twitter, the predecessor of X, in October last year, many advertisers have worried that their ads may be presented to users along with inappropriate content. Researchers and radical groups also say there has been an increase in hate content on the X platform.

Akarino said in a previous interview that X introduced new content review tools and features to prevent ads from appearing with certain content. Before it was acquired by Musk, X did not provide such a feature.

Yakarino also defended Musk's freedom of speech on the X platform.

"this kind of freedom of speech is a success only if people you don't agree with say what you don't agree with." She said.
