The raspberry pie 5 uses a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor with a clock rate of 2.4GHz, a performance improvement of two to three times compared to the raspberry pie 4 four years ago.

The SBC is also equipped with a 800MHz VideoCore VII graphics chip, which the Raspberry Pi Foundation says provides a "substantial improvement" in graphics performance.

The South Bridge component of the Raspberry Pie 5, made by the Raspberry Pie Foundation itself, is used to communicate with peripherals, and officials say there has been a "leap in peripherals and functions" to establish faster transmission with external UAS drives and other peripherals.

Raspberry pie 5 also offers two four-channel 1.5 Gbps MIPI transceivers that can be connected to up to two cameras or monitors.

Raspberry pie 5 also provides support for a single-channel PCIe 2.0 interface to connect to "high-bandwidth peripherals". But the Raspberry Pie Foundation says adapters such as M.2 HAT (hardware connected to the top) are still needed to use.

The 4GB version of the raspberry pie 5 costs $60 and the 8GB version costs $80, both of which are $5 higher than the previous version, and will go on sale at the end of October.
