Professor Ji Qinghua, winner of the 2023 Yidan Education Research Award, is an outstanding cognitive scientist who is well known for her "ICAP" cognitive interaction theory. The ICAP framework explores students' learning patterns and divides them into four types: passive learning, active learning, constructive learning and interactive learning. ICAP sets a benchmark for "cognitive learning" to help teachers gain a better understanding of how students learn, so as to design courses that allow students to actively participate in classroom interaction and help students grow from accepting knowledge to active thinking to "creating new knowledge" through collaboration.

Professor Ji Qinghua, chairman of the judging panel of the ▲ 2023 Yidan Educational Research Award and director of education and skills of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Andreas Sleicher (Andreas Schleicher), said: "Professor Ji Qinghua's research approach is not simply to empirically classify observational research or existing research, but to sum up the main research achievements in the field of cognitive science on the basis of solid theory. It bridges the differences in the previous research literature. One of her important contributions to educational research is to put forward the ICAP theory of exploring how students learn, refining cognitive science and different learning styles into a framework that is easy to understand and easy to popularize, and spare no effort to put scientific theory into practice.

Professor Ji Qinghua plans to use the funds of the Yidan Award program to continue to improve ICAP theory, develop professional development training resources for preschool to higher education teachers, expand the application of ICAP theory in global education scenarios, and promote students to build key skills and enhance in-depth learning.
