CTOnews.com, September 28 (Xinhua)-- Qualcomm Technologies today announced the launch of two new space computing platforms, the second-generation Snapdragon XR2 and the first-generation Snapdragon AR1, which will support the creation of the next generation of MR, VR and smart glasses devices.

According to Qualcomm's official introduction, the second generation Snapdragon XR2 platform GPU performance increases 2.5 times, AI performance increases 8 times per watt, CPU energy efficiency increases 50%, supports up to 10 parallel cameras and sensors, and also supports 3K x 3K display, Snapdragon listening, Wi-Fi 7 and so on.

The first generation of Snapdragon AR1 platform is designed to optimize the power consumption for heat dissipation limitations, and can be used for lightweight smart glasses.

The platform can support shooting, sharing or live streaming directly from the side of the glasses, thus helping users to free their hands. Moreover, the terminal-side AI can also provide personal assistant experience such as sound quality enhancement, visual search and real-time translation. In addition, the platform supports visual heads-up display, which enables content consumption, including video, to be seamlessly integrated with the user's field of view.

CTOnews.com learned from Qualcomm's official press release that the two next-generation platforms were developed in close cooperation with Meta and will be the first commercial debut on Meta devices in 2023:

Meta Quest 3 will be equipped with the second generation Snapdragon XR2 platform, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses series will be equipped with the first generation Snapdragon AR1 platform, and more devices from other manufacturers will be launched in 2024.
