Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
The H100 is in short supply, and the next generation of stronger GPUs is already on the way. Nvidia's new generation of chip B100, which will adopt TSMC's 3nm process and multi-chip design, is expected to be launched in 2024.
3nm process, performance far exceeds H100!
Just recently, foreign media DigiTimes revealed NVIDIA's next-generation GPU, the B100 codenamed "Blackwell."
As a product for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) applications, the B100 will use TSMC's 3nm process and more complex multi-chip module (MCM) design, and will appear in the fourth quarter of 2024.
For NVIDIA, which monopolizes more than 80% of the artificial intelligence GPU market, it can use the B100 to strike while the iron is hot to further snipe AMD, Intel and other challengers in this wave of AI deployment.
Nvidia estimates that by 2027, this sector will be worth about $300 billion.
Unlike Hopper / Ada architecture, Blackwell architecture will extend to data centers and consumer GPUs.
The B100 is not expected to change significantly in the number of cores, but there are signs that its underlying architecture will be significantly adjusted.
This MCM design indicates that NVIDIA will use advanced packaging technology to separate GPU components into individual chips.
While the exact number and configuration of chips has not yet been determined, this approach will give Nvidia greater flexibility in custom chips.
This is the same as AMD's intention to launch the Instinct MI300 series.
However, it remains to be seen which 3nm process Nvidia B100 will use.
For now, TSMC has numerous 3nm points, including performance-enhanced N3P and N3X for HPC.
Given NVIDIA's custom manufacturing techniques on Ada Lovelace, Hopper and Ampere, it is also possible to infer that the new Blackwell will also use custom nodes.
Of course, Nvidia is not the only one to adopt TSMC N3 technology next year.
AMD, Intel, MediaTek and Qualcomm will all adopt one of TSMC's 3nm nodes in 2024-2025.
In fact, MediaTek has adopted TSMC's first N3E design.
At present, only Apple uses TSMC's N3B (first generation N3) technology to make its latest A17 Pro chip.
In addition, for other chips, such as M3, M3 Pro, M3 Max and M3 Ultra, it is expected that N3B technology will also be adopted.
