CTOnews.com, September 27 (Xinhua)-- the Golden Globes Golden Globes has officially announced that the 2024 Golden Globes on January 14 next year will introduce two new awards for popular films with global influence at the box office or streaming, as well as the best performance in stand-up comedies.

The first new award is Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement (Golden Globe Film and Box Office Achievement Awards), which can nominate up to eight films, and the eligible films will be the highest-earning or highest-watched feature films of the year.

Films nominated for the award need to earn at least $150 million (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1.096 billion yuan) during their release, of which $100 million must come from the domestic box office.

However, streaming films cannot be counted at the box office, and Golden Globes officials said they would consider streaming films with corresponding ratings based on data from "recognized industry sources".

Another Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television (Best TV stand-up Comedy performance Award) will be nominated for a comedy special (broadcast, free, paid or pay-per-view) broadcast on cable / streaming, with a maximum of six comedians nominated.

However, stand-up comedy shows must be posted on approved media platforms, and personal social media accounts are not considered, meaning individual creators on platforms such as TikTok cannot be nominated.

CTOnews.com found that Golden Globes and box office achievement awards are similar to the "Outstanding Mass Film Awards" launched at the Academy Awards in 2018. However, due to strong opposition from film critics, the Oscar ceremony cancelled the award in 2019.
