CTOnews.com, September 27 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft today introduced the developer features of the new version of Windows and announced the release of Dev home, a productivity partner for Windows developers, as well as performance models for WinGet 1.6, Dev Drive new storage volumes and Microsoft Defender.

Microsoft unveiled new Dev Drive storage volumes at this year's Build developer conference. Starting today, Dev Drive will be open to all Windows developers using the latest Windows 11.

According to reports, Dev Drive's new storage volume is tailored for developers and is based on elastic file system (ReFS). With targeted file system optimization technology, it can better control storage volume settings and security, including trust designation, antivirus configuration, and management and control of additional filters, which can be used to improve the performance and security of key developer workloads.

In addition to ReFS, Dev Drive combines Microsoft Defender for Antivirus's new performance model to reduce file I / O build time by 30 per cent (CTOnews.com Note: build time for I / O scenarios, not read and write speed).

To take full advantage of Dev Drive, Microsoft also recommends that developers move package caches and repositories to Dev Drive.

In addition, in order to quickly check the status of Dev Drive volumes, Microsoft has added a special Dev Drive section to the developer Settings page. This section also provides links to disk and volume settings to create a Dev Drive and launch a security program to control antivirus behavior.

For Microsoft Defender's performance mode, Microsoft says it can asynchronously scan Dev Drive volumes and control its behavior through the newly improved Dev Drive user interface under "virus and threat protection" in Microsoft security applications.

If you have multiple Dev Drive development drives set up, you can quickly identify which drive is in "performance mode".

After you click View volumes, you can view all Dev Drive development drives. For example, the two partitions (D:\) and (F:\) in the following figure are both formatted as ReFS through Dev Drive, but Defender performance mode is enabled only on (F:\).
