CTOnews.com Sept. 27, according to the Shanghai Securities News, at the Tesla Super Factory in Shanghai Pudong Port, the rear soleplate assembly system of Tesla Model Y model produced here has successfully adopted integrated die-casting technology to achieve rapid casting.

According to Cui Hailun, structural and thermal management system manager of Tesla Shanghai Co., Ltd., on the Tesla Model Y integrated die-casting backplane model, the original parts were installed and integrated into one part, and the production efficiency was greatly improved. Compared with the traditional way, the body system saves weight by more than 10%. In addition, the cost also has a very obvious advantage, thanks to the optimized structural design and material recycling results, the car's rear bottom plate assembly system adopts integrated die-casting, the cost is reduced by 40%.

Tesla's integrated die-casting body technology (gigacasting) has made a breakthrough to change the existing production model of electric vehicles and help Musk achieve his goal of halving production costs, CTOnews.com reported earlier, citing Reuters.

Tesla developed a giant press with a clamping pressure of 6000-9000 tons, which integrated die-casting the front and rear frame structure of the Model Y model, reducing production costs.

People familiar with the matter believe that this breakthrough in integrated die-casting body technology can make about 400 parts produced by traditional cars, almost all the complex electric vehicle bottoms into a whole, and build Tesla's new technology moat.

It is reported that Tesla's time to develop a new car can be reduced to 18-24 months after deploying the integrated die-casting body technology, while it usually takes 3-4 years for automakers to develop new cars.
