Carmack called Sutton the "godfather of reinforcement learning" and said it made him well suited to lead the job of AGI, an artificial intelligence that resembles human behavior.

Sutton said at the event that he didn't think it was impossible to write AGI with existing technology, adding that he thought 2030 was a possible goal, when a "prototype AI would show signs of life."

At the event, Sutton and Carmack introduced some of the Keen employees who will be involved in the project. But Sutton and the Keen team are bold enough to believe they can contribute to AGI. Carmack expressed his opinion, saying that although "no one can see a solution to this problem today, but we don't think there is much left to do." "there are some basic research questions to answer, and we have internal projects and attack perspectives," he said, predicting that future textbooks on how to build AGI will include a chapter on what Keen and other institutions will do in the coming years.

And he believes that this effort will soon produce what looks like success. "We are still six, seven or eight years away from the public display of what is really important and important."

Carmack also revealed that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman (Sam Altman) had tried to hire him, even though he had no AI experience at the time. Although he rejected the offer, Carmack became curious about AI.
