Dojo D1 is a custom chip specially designed by Tesla for the Dojo supercomputer, which is manufactured by TSMC.

Tesla plans to double the output of Dojo D1 chips next year to 10,000, according to people familiar with the matter. It is expected that orders for Dojo D1 chips manufactured by TSMC will continue to increase by 2025, taking into account the scalability of Dojo supercomputers.

Tesla uses Dojo supercomputers to train artificial intelligence models of advanced driving assistance systems and fully autopilot systems. With the launch of projects such as FSD, self-driving taxis and Optimus robots, Dojo supercomputers are likely to contribute more to the company's operations.

Tesla's increase in Dojo D1 chip orders also helps TSMC. It is reported that TSMC's deal with Tesla has led to an increase in orders related to high-performance computing. Although neither Tesla nor TSMC could be reached for comment, the industry is publicly aware of the business relationship between the two companies.

With the addition of the Dojo supercomputer, Tesla may be able to reduce his dependence on Nvidia GPU chip products. Tesla has always been an important customer of Nvidia, and it is reported that Tesla recently launched a new supercomputer with 10,000 Nvidia H100 GPU chips. The system costs about $300 million and will be used in a variety of artificial intelligence applications.

Tesla's official artificial intelligence account posted a series of posts about the Dojo supercomputer on social media X, demonstrating its ambitious goals. Tesla said that the Dojo supercomputer began production in July 2022 and is expected to enter the top five in computing power in the world by January 2024. By October 2024, Tesla expects the Dojo supercomputer to have 10 billion times per second (Exa-flop) of computing power.
