Nissan has launched a new sports all-electric concept car in Europe, announcing that Nissan will achieve 100% fully electric motorization across the European market by 2030, CTOnews.com reported on September 26.

The concept car, designed by Nissan's London design team, called Concept 20-23, has round daytime driving lights and looks very compact as a whole.

According to Nissan's "Ambition 2030" plan, Nissan will launch 19 new electric vehicles worldwide and eight "electric vaporization" models. In addition, Nissan is particularly focused on accelerating the development of the European market, saying it accounts for 1/3 of the brand's global sales.

Nissan said it currently sells only hybrid and electric models in Europe-including the "e-Power" unplugged hybrid crossover and the X-Trail compact SUV, as well as Ariya EV and Townstar electric vans.

Nissan's next generation of electric cars in Europe also includes an electric version of a small Micra, which will serve as an entry-level model for Nissan, while another unannounced car is scheduled to be produced at Nissan's Sunderland plant in the UK.

To support the ambitions of its all-electric vehicle lineup, Nissan also has a plan to reduce battery costs by 65% by 2028. These plans include switching to low-cost chemicals and avoiding the use of cobalt.

Nissan also reiterated plans announced last year to introduce solid-state batteries, saying it could reduce charging time for electric vehicles "to 1/3" and reduce battery costs to $75 per kilowatt hour (later to $65 per kilowatt hour).

For reference, the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of vehicle Technology reports that batteries for mass-produced electric vehicles in 2022 cost about $153 per kilowatt-hour (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1118 yuan).

In 2021, Nissan announced plans to invest 2 trillion yen ($17.6 billion) over the next five years to accelerate its global electric vehicle development.
