Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, September 25 (Xinhua)-- the European Southern Observatory (ESO) has discovered a new star in an earlier image taken by Chile's VLT very large Telescope. Because it happens to be stuck on the defined boundary line, it can be understood as a planet or a star (brown dwarf).
This image shows the unique star system HIP 81208, in which the framed HIP 81208 C b is the new star that astronomers have just discovered, while HIP 81208 A, HIP 81208 B, and HIP 81208 C are all stars, and none of these four stars have known exoplanets.
▲ source: the European Southern Observatory (ESO) HIP 81208 is not strictly our usual "trisomy star". It is the first binary star system discovered through direct imaging, also known as HD 149274 or TIC 280474618, is only 17 million years old and is a member of the Scorpio-upper Centauri-lupus subgroup.
Astronomers believe that HIP 81208 is a star system consisting of central star A (central bright spot), brown dwarf B orbiting A, and a red dwarf C orbiting farther away. The CTOnews.com query found that HIP 81208 is about 476.666 light-years from the sun.
The new results show that the star system contains a hidden star, CB, orbiting star C, which is a gaseous giant planet with a mass about 14.8 times that of Jupiter. It takes about 285.2 years to orbit the star and about 23.04 astronomical units from the star.
According to reports, HIP 81208 An is a B9 star with 2.6solar mass, B is a brown dwarf star orbiting A with about 53.98 astronomical units, and C is a low-mass star orbiting A with about 234.27 astronomical units.
"the newly discovered companion star orbits part of HIP 81208C, making HIP 81208 the first substellar companion system found by direct imaging to orbit two different stars."
"the mass of this newly discovered object lies on the boundary between a planet and a brown dwarf, a failed star that does not have enough mass and heat to fuse hydrogen into helium."
"in fact, this is the first hierarchical quadruple system to be discovered using direct imaging technology, which is invaluable in understanding how complex star systems like this form and evolve," the researchers said. "
