▲ right for Michelle Johnston Holthaus Intel unveiled the latest Meteor Lake processor at its innovation event on September 20, and detailed a series of new features of Meteor Lake, such as integrated NPU, an AI power management system, a 15% increase in battery life, and its separate module architecture, using Intel 4 technology for the first time.

In June, Intel announced a major upgrade to the Core brand, dividing it into the new Intel Core Ultra for the flagship and the Intel Core processor brand for mainstream products. Intel said that the upcoming Meteor Lake processor is a revolutionary generation of products, from which the brand will use a whole new way of naming.

Intel said that thanks to advanced Foveros 3D packaging technology, Meteor Lake adopted a separate module architecture, dividing the entire processor into functional partitions of computing modules, IO modules, SoC modules and graphics modules, bringing about revolutionary architectural changes in Intel client SoC over the past 40 years.

The processor uses a 3D high-performance hybrid architecture consisting of performance cores (Redwood Cove) and energy efficiency cores (Crestmont) and low power efficiency cores. Intel says it has achieved an excellent energy consumption ratio in the history of PC processors and integrated neural network processing units (NPU) into PC processors for the first time, accelerating the popularity of artificial intelligence.

Computing module (Compute Tile): uses the latest generation of energy efficiency core and performance core micro-architecture and enhanced functions. The module adopts a new generation of Intel 4 process technology, which has made great progress in energy consumption ratio.

SoC module (SoC Tile): innovative low power island design, integrated with neural network processing unit (NPU), brings energy-efficient AI performance to PC, and is compatible with standardized program interfaces such as OpenVINO, which is convenient for AI development and application popularization.
