At the 20th China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, Guangxi, Brunei Airlines (GallopAir) signed a letter of intent with Comac for 30 aircraft, including C919 and ARJ-21 models.

This is the first C919 order and the second ARJ-21 order from an overseas airline, indicating that Verji Airlines will become the first overseas Aviation Department to fly a large Chinese-made aircraft, the first overseas user of an ARJ21 freighter, and the first user of a medical aircraft.

The Comac aircraft need to go through due diligence and certification procedures from Brunei's Ministry of Civil Aviation before delivery, and they are "expected to start operating in the third quarter of 2024," Verji said.

Verji Airlines was registered in Singapore in October 2021 and is expected to become the second Brunei-based airline after Royal Brunei Airlines, according to public data. The company said it intends to provide flight services in Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines eastern ASEAN growth zone.

According to Baoji Airlines, in August this year, the Vernon Air and Comac delegation went to Brunei to discuss with the Ministry of Finance and economy, the Ministry of Traffic Information and Communications, the Civil Aviation Administration and the Economic Development Bureau about the domestic ARJ21 aircraft, obtaining evidence in Brunei and launching the airline, with a view to opening commercial operation in 2024.

At present, Indonesia's TransNusa is operating two ARJ21-700s, and plans to add another 28, making it the only non-Chinese operator of the aircraft.

The Comac C919 large airliner is China's first trunk jet developed in accordance with international airworthiness standards and with independent intellectual property rights. The seating class is 158192 and the voyage is 4075-5555 km.

The aircraft completed its final assembly on November 2, 2015, successfully made its maiden flight on May 5, 2017, received a model certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China on September 29, 2022, delivered the world's first aircraft on December 9, 2022, and successfully completed its first commercial flight on May 28, 2023.

According to official data, the C919 has received at least 1061 confirmed or intended orders, while only two deliveries have just been completed.

Compared with airlines, leasing companies are actually the biggest customers of C919, such as ICBC Leasing order of 100 aircraft, Agricultural Bank Leasing of 75, Jianxin Leasing and Ping an Financial Leasing of 50, and overseas customers include 20 aircraft leased by GECAS (an aircraft leasing company spun off by General Electric).
