Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com Sept. 23, Reuters today quoted two Indian government officials as saying that India will postpone import license requirements for laptops and tablets. One of the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said in an interview that the plan would be delayed by a year, after which the government would consider whether to implement a licensing system.

Reported that the move is the industry complained that it may hit Apple, Samsung and other companies marked a shift in previous policy. India's electronics department is currently proposing to simplify import registration procedures, according to officials with direct knowledge of the discussions. However, India's electronics department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

One of the officials said the new "import management system" would require companies to obtain a "registration certificate" instead of a previously planned "license" when importing laptops, tablets and PC, a proposal that India's electronics department communicated to industry officials at a meeting on Friday.

CTOnews.com previously reported that in an effort to boost local manufacturing, India announced licensing requirements for imported laptops, tablets and personal computers early last month, with immediate effect.

India's previous regulations allow companies to import products such as laptops freely, and companies need a special license if they want to continue to sell these imports in India after the new rules come into effect.

Industry executives say the import licensing system in India means extending the waiting time for each product to enter the Indian market, especially considering applying in advance to meet sales demand during the holiday season.

When the time came on August 5, due to pressure from various parties, the Indian government announced that it would postpone import licensing measures for laptops and tablets, which will take effect on November 1 this year.

Manufacturers can continue to import laptops, tablets, PC and server devices until October 31 without applying for an additional license.
