Samsung's new Xuanlong Knight Neo G9 is known as the benchmark of the display industry, but the latest report says that even the flagship GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card will not fit the monitor perfectly.

One of the highlights of Samsung's new Xuanlong Knight Neo G9 display is that it supports up to 8K 240Hz refresh rates, although even Nvidia's flagship RTX 4090 graphics card can only support 8K 120Hz.

AMD's Radeon RX 7000 series graphics card can achieve 8K 240Hz either through DisplayPort 2.1or through HDMI 2.1port.

CTOnews.com inquired about the relevant reports and currently believes that there are two reasons:

One view of the shrinking Nvidia HDMI 2.1is that although the Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card shows support for HDMI 2.1in the official specification, it cannot actually achieve the same 48 Gbps as the AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics card.

Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics cards support up to DP 1.4a, which naturally cannot provide 8K 240Hz, while AMD provides DP 2.1, which allows up to 8K 480Hz mode.

DSC mechanism, but another view is that this problem is most likely related to the mechanism behind "display stream compression" (DSC). This is an algorithm developed by VESA that aims at efficient and high-resolution output.

In order to output the required resolution, DSC uses the "display pipe" on the GPU chip, while NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090 cannot support the maximum display of the Odyssey Neo G9, which may be due to the "bottleneck" created within a single display pipe to a single output port.
