CTOnews.com, September 23 (Xinhua)-- Beijing Metro began to pilot off-peak-hour "express delivery" today, the first pilot project in the country to make use of urban rail transit surplus capacity to transport express delivery during off-peak hours, Beijing Daily reported.

The first batch of pilot lines include Line 4 and Line 9-Fangshan-Yanfang Line. On the basis of not adjusting the departure time and stop time of the train, affecting passenger travel, and without upgrading equipment and facilities, express delivery is organized through fixed lines and special escorts.

It is worth mentioning that Shenzhen Railway Group signed a cooperation agreement with SF Express on August 15, and the two sides will work together to build Shenzhen's first air-rail intermodal logistics demonstration line project. The demonstration line project will adopt the "hub-to-station" model to carry out logistics joint transportation between Futian hub-Biwan subway station and Shenzhen Shunfeng airport base.

CTOnews.com noted that the two sides will establish an integrated space for goods arrival and departure, loading and unloading transmission, and security inspection and sorting at the Futian hub; establish a cargo transfer space at the Biwan subway station, and establish a new mode of spatial integration of modern rail transit and logistics facilities.

Urban rail transit has less passenger flow and low full load rate during the peak period, which also provides great utilization space and value for freight logistics. The pilot application of logistics distribution in off-peak hours of urban rail transit is an important exploration for the subway as a means of full marketization of public transport.
