A group of fibers make up a thread about 150 microns thick, and iFixit says Apple is using a micro-twill material similar to high-end jackets from companies such as Patagonia and Arc'teryx.

IFixit also tested a variety of scenarios, showing that although the fine twill is resistant to coffee, it is not strong enough in terms of sauces and oils, making it easy to "contaminate" daily use and difficult to clean once glued.

IFixit cuts open the protective case to see how it is assembled. The FineWoven fabric is on the outside and gray foam on the inside. In addition to the gray foam, there is a hard plastic sheet, MagSafe hardware, white foam, another hard plastic sheet, and a finely woven fabric inner layer. All the layers are thin, and the FineWoven fabric itself is about 0.17mm.
