Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens HandsomeDoge, West window past, handwritten former, soft media users 1520111, CRXiZL, South China Daniel Wu's clue delivery! CTOnews.com, September 22, according to the British government website, CMA said today that Activision Blizzard's sale of cloud game rights to Ubisoft has greatly addressed previous concerns and opened the door for the deal to be approved.

Earlier this year, CMA blocked Microsoft from buying Activision Blizzard's entire business for $69 billion because of concerns that the deal would hurt competition in British cloud games. After the deal was blocked, Microsoft submitted a restructuring deal for review by CMA in August.

CTOnews.com learned from the announcement that under the new agreement, Microsoft will not buy the rights to cloud games held by Activision Blizzard, but will sell it to an independent third-party Ubisoft Entertainment (Ubisoft) before the deal is completed.

CMA believes that the restructuring deal has made an important change, basically addressing the concerns raised earlier this year related to the original transaction.

CMA said the sale of Activision Blizzard's cloud streaming rights to Ubisoft would prevent important content-including games such as call of Duty, Watchman and World of Warcraft-from being controlled by Microsoft in cloud games. CMA initially found that Microsoft already has a strong position in cloud gaming services and can use its control of Activision content to curb competition and consolidate that position.

To address these problems, Microsoft has provided remedies to ensure that Activision Blizzard's sale of rights to Ubisoft is enforceable by CMA. CMA tentatively concluded that this additional protection should address these residual problems. CMA is now consulting on Microsoft's proposed remedies until October 6.

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been approved by regional regulators, including tough US regulators, leaving only CMA in the UK.
