CTOnews.com, September 22 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft announced a new policy on firmware and driver updates for Surface devices along with new products such as Surface Laptop Studio 2, Surface Laptop Go 3 and Surface Go 4.

Microsoft said that in order to help IT administrators better manage Surface devices, it will extend driver and firmware support for Surface devices to six years after the product's official launch, and the current four years.

"We are committed to providing lasting value to Surface customers through cross-hardware and software capabilities," Microsoft said.

CTOnews.com encloses Microsoft's support strategy for existing Surface as follows: "the device support period begins when the device is released. Surface devices will receive driver and firmware updates at least 4 years after the device's first release. If the support lasts for more than 4 years, the updated service end date will be released before the last service date."
