CTOnews.com Sept. 21, 1Password recently updated its iOS application for iPhone and iPad users, and Passkey can be saved and used in the latest version 8.10.16.

Password management software 1Password announced earlier this year that Passkey will be supported for iOS apps because iOS 17 allows third-party applications to store new password-less login methods.

Apple has introduced Passkey support in its iOS 16 system, but only for official Apple apps such as Safari and iCloud Keychain.

Apple extended this feature to third-party applications in iOS 17, and password manager 1Password was one of the first managers to announce support for Passkey in its iOS app.

Steve Won, chief product officer of 1Password, said: "Passkey is the best form of password-free authentication that balances security and convenience, and 1Password is committed to making them acceptable to all businesses and consumers." With Google, TikTok and GitHub launching Passkey this summer, billions of people around the world now have the opportunity to adopt this exciting technology.

CTOnews.com Note: Passkey is a digital credential that is used as an authentication method for a website or application. The key standard is a password-free authentication promoted by the World wide Web Consortium and the FIDO Alliance.

They are typically stored by the operating system or Web browser and use the cloud to synchronize between devices from the same ecosystem, but they can also be limited to a single device, such as a physical security key. Compared with traditional authentication methods, cryptographic keys are designed to be more convenient and more anti-phishing.
