This article introduces the relevant knowledge of "how to use the four-quadrant method to analyze problems". In the operation of actual cases, many people will encounter such a dilemma. Next, let the editor lead you to learn how to deal with these situations. I hope you can read it carefully and be able to achieve something!
Students who have knowledge of time management must know the four-quadrant method-using an axis to distinguish the importance and urgency of tasks, as shown in the following figure:
Through this axis, tasks can be divided into four types: important and urgent, important and non-urgent, urgent and important, urgent and unimportant. We should first complete the urgent and important things, and then complete the important or unurgent things, leave the urgent and unimportant things to others to do, and don't do the things that are not urgent or important.
There are too many articles on the Internet to introduce the four-quadrant method in time management, so I won't say any more. In this paper, we will replace this way of thinking classified by four quadrants into a variety of other problems, and then we will find that the four-quadrant method can analyze almost all problems.
Let's first give a few examples, and then show how to use the four quadrants to analyze the problem.
An example of four-quadrant analysis
By setting different horizontal and vertical axes, we can analyze almost all problems. Let's look at a few examples.
What kind of person is he?
We know that some people are selfish and others are benevolent. Some people do good deeds anonymously, while others do things that they want everyone to know. We try to set the horizontal axis to self-interest on the left and to benefit others on the right. The vertical axis is set to public above and private below. Then we can get the following four quadrants:
Each quadrant can represent a class of people. For example:
High-profile people, such as Chen Guangbiao, who claims to be the best in China, have indeed done a lot of good deeds, and they have indeed publicized the good deeds they have done in a very high profile.
High-profile egos, such as Eugenie Grandet, or the stingy iron rooster around you.
Low-key self-interest, most of us are such people, although the heart is not bad, but always think about themselves first, and then think about others.
Low-key people, such as Lei Feng, do good deeds anonymously, but for his diary, many people do not know how many good deeds he has done.
What am I supposed to do?
We know that there are some things that can be done immediately; some things that take a long time to see results; some things that make people feel happy; and some things that make people get great benefits. So, if we set the Abscissa to the present and the future, and the ordinate to whether we focus on experience or benefit, we can get the following four-quadrant graph:
What kind of player are you?
If you analyze it now, how many types of players are there in the game? You may not be able to say a few at the moment. But if we draw an axis, the Abscissa indicates whether the player tends to interact with the player (left) or with the environment (right), and the vertical axis indicates the way the player interacts with the target, whether to exert influence (top) or just communicate with the target (bottom). We can easily divide players into four types, as shown in the following figure:
Achievement players like to complete a variety of challenging tasks in the game, so as to control the game. For example, on station B, all kinds of Up owners who are proficient in distressing game videos with one life belong to this type of players.
Killer players (not necessarily "killer players" *) tend to influence other players, for example, there are such people on many online games to destroy the fun of other players. Specializes in robbing other players of their trophies, or robbing and killing other players.
Social players tend to make friends with other players, form unions, and make copies with friends in the game.
Exploratory players tend to feel the game itself, sightseeing in the game or take care of their homes, or match their clothes, or pinch their faces to raise children.
So now whether it is NetEase's Tencent games or other small factories' independent games, they will try to please these four types of players, so they will set different ways of playing for different types of players.
Analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
When we do competitive product analysis, we list the characteristics of our products and competitive products according to the four dimensions of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, then we can get the following picture:
Small universe vs Himalayas
In the picture above, I briefly analyze the functional features of the recent popular podcast App Mini Universe and the established podcast App Himalayas in these four dimensions.
As you can see, Mini Universe supports RSS subscription podcasts, so that podcasts of the whole network can be played in the Mini Universe. On the other hand, the Himalayas can only play incoming anchors, and the content richness depends entirely on how many anchors are stationed. Mini Universe users can listen to the comments with the current playback progress, so that other users can quickly locate the relevant location, while the Himalayas do not have such a feature.
Mini Universe home page recommends that editors choose 3 programs a day, which has a quality advantage, but may not satisfy all tastes of users. For example, I don't like listening to emotional programs, but editors often choose emotional programs. Himalayan programs are automatically recommended based on users' preferences. So, in terms of recommendation mechanism, small Universe faces the threat of recommendation system, but because small Universe has RSS subscription function, I don't like editors' selected programs. I can subscribe to my favorite programs with RSS.
As for the live streaming function, the small universe itself does not have this function, while the Himalayas have, this is a disadvantage, but also the Himalayan threat to the small universe. But it doesn't matter. Small Universe doesn't need live streaming in terms of product positioning. So there is no need for the small universe to make a live broadcast function in order to follow the trend. On the contrary, it would be wiser to give up this area and focus more on what you are good at.
In addition, the small universe currently has the opportunity but at a disadvantage in social functions and profit deficiency. Users of Mini Universe can only communicate in the comment area.
According to Metcalfe's law [1], the more users there are in a network, the greater the value of each user in the whole network. But there is a premise that each user can establish a link with any other user. But the existing mechanism is that one user needs to go through a program to know another user. So if three users get to know three friends through three programs, there are only three links, as shown in the following figure:
But if you design a mechanism so that different users can get to know each other, then these six people can create a total of 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 15 links, and the value of this network is far greater than the original three-link network. This is shown in the following figure.
According to the current depth and popularity of comments from users under the mini universe program, there should be a better chance to form the Metcalfe effect than the perfunctory comments on the Himalayan show.
Experienced students may find that this is the famous SWOT analysis.
Why should four quadrants be used to analyze problems
In daily life, we recognize problems, often one or the other. One thing is either a good thing or a bad thing. A person is either a good person or a bad person.
Using four quadrants will force you to look at things from a line to a surface. In this way, when you consider the position of an index above the Abscissa, you must also consider its position on the ordinate. For example, when you work in pinduoduo, if you only consider whether to make money quickly or slowly, it is obviously a quick way to make money. If many people change jobs to pinduoduo, their monthly salary will double. But if we add another vertical axis, which indicates whether the risk is high or low, it is obviously extremely risky. Therefore, although we can make money quickly, we cannot choose this plan because it is life-threatening. In addition to the level of risk, as well as whether human rights are respected, the amount of time spent with family members, and whether they are free to go to the toilet, we can see that pinduoduo is not worth going to.
How to construct such a four quadrant
Using four quadrants to analyze the problem, we usually fix an axis first, and then classify the target by different vertical axes. When a certain vertical axis allows the target to be roughly classified and basically meets the requirements, we further fine-tune the results by modifying the horizontal axis.
For example, now that I want to buy a gift for my girlfriend, there are four options: 1. Write a cool web page and show it to your girlfriend on her birthday. Buy a SK-II skincare set; 3. Buy the latest version of XBox; 4. Buy a Dyson hair dryer.
If we set the Abscissa to the input level and the ordinate to whether the girlfriend is happy or not, then we can get the four quadrants shown in the following figure:
As you can see from the figure, option 1, 3, can be excluded, and option 2, 4, can be further considered. At this time, we changed the Abscissa to the degree of usefulness to me, and we got the following picture:
Obviously, buying a Dyson hair dryer is the best choice.
Matters needing attention
On an axis, the horizontal and vertical coordinates are vertical, which is called "orthogonal" mathematically. That is, the corresponding dimensions of the two axes should not be related to each other, and there should be no overlap. For example, the Abscissa is good-bad, the ordinate is good-evil is not a reasonable way to divide the horizontal and vertical coordinates, because they have overlapping parts, the corresponding horizontal and vertical axes are not vertical, as shown in the following figure:
The four-quadrant method has two axes and four quadrants. In fact, you can add another axis so that there are eight hexagram limits to classify the target, and the result will be more accurate. Taking the above example of analyzing game players as an example, we add another axis to see if we have money, so we get the following three-dimensional axis:
