CTOnews.com, September 20 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- more and more companies and developers joined the protest against Unity after more than 503 developers signed a collective letter on a "protest website" announcing that they would shut down their in-game Unity IronSource and Unity Ads services until "Unty makes concessions".

However, CTOnews.com inquired about the "Collective letter" website and learned that the website had been taken offline, and then the site's domain name had suddenly been "expired". Some users in the Reddit discussion platform thought it was because the account of the "managed domain name" was "suspended" or caused by the intrusion of "related people".

I can't provide any information about what happened to the site, but I did see this post a few hours ago and saw that the domain name was strangely 'expired'.

This is very strange, when a domain name 'expires', there is usually a long window, and it still maintains an 'idle' or other 'advertising-filled page' provided by some other domain name vendors, giving the owner a chance to restore it. So this domain name is not just 'expired'.

I finally see if I can register this domain name, and the answer is yes.

My guess is that the account of the original GoDaddy domain name provider registered / hosted was suspended or "some other extreme operation" because the old host seemed to disappear and I just received the IIS default message on the old IP.

Unfortunately, there's nothing on Wayback Machine, so I can't even pull the version of the original collective site, and I've redirected it to the open source engine Godot, at least to indicate that the domain name is not 'caught by Unity' or to prevent anyone from trying to post ads on it.

▲ source Reddit reported that developers involved in signing the group letter previously included Tap Nation,People Fun,Magic Tavern,Lion Studios,Belka Games,Machine Zone,Clipwire,Mindstorm Studios and so on, and the original group letter website published the following content:

We urge other developers in the same position to do the same. now that the rules of Unity have changed, the stakes are too high. The 'installation fee' is an unacceptable change in our relationship with Unity and needs to be cancelled immediately.

CTOnews.com reported earlier that Unity planned to revise its charging plan and apologized due to developer protests. Unity acknowledged "confusion and anxiety" in the industry due to changes in installation fees, but did not release subsequent changes.
