The test chip, code-named "Pike Creek", brings together the cutting-edge craftsmanship of two major manufacturers, including the Intel UCIe IP chip based on the Intel 3 process and the Synopsys UCIe IP chip of the TSMC N3E, which communicate with each other through the Intel EMIB interface.

UCIe (Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express) is an open interconnection protocol for small chips, which can meet customers' requirements for customized packaging.

As an open Chiplet interconnection specification, UCIe defines the interconnection between Chiplet in the package to realize the universal interconnection of Chiplet at the encapsulation level and an open Chiplet ecosystem.

The UCIe Industry Alliance was established in March 2022 by AMD, Arm, ASE, Google Cloud, Intel, Meta, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Samsung and TSMC. The alliance was established to promote the standardization of the Chiplet interface specification, and has launched the UCIe version 1.1 specification. As of the publication of CTOnews.com, the membership of UCIe Alliance has reached more than 120.

It is worth mentioning that although Intel Sapphire Rapids and newly released Meteor Lake processors use small chip designs, they still use Intel proprietary interfaces and communication protocols, but Intel has announced that it will switch to UCIe interfaces after the next generation of Arrow Lake processors are consumed.
