Volkswagen invested about 1 billion euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 8.06 billion yuan) to set up Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., Ltd. in Hefei this year. Officials claim that it "integrates the research and development of complete vehicles and spare parts, and the research and development time of new products and technologies can be reduced by about 30%."

Volkswagen said that in order to improve the R & D efficiency in response to the needs of the Chinese market and enhance its R & D capability in China for vehicle platforms and core components, Volkswagen Group has set up a wholly-owned R & D company. The R & D company will cooperate with the German R & D headquarters to undertake the research and development of Volkswagen Group's new electric vehicle platform, complete vehicle and key components, as well as the core parts procurement function of the new R & D electric vehicle platform.

According to Baird, Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., Ltd. will integrate the research and development of complete vehicles and parts in China, and integrate the purchasing function, so as to reduce the launch time of new products by 30% through functional integration. The company will become Volkswagen's largest procurement and R & D center outside Germany.

Volkswagen has said that the new R & D center will release synergies in the development process. In addition, in the early stages, local technology will be integrated into product development in order to enable the group's products to meet the needs of Chinese customers more quickly.
