CTOnews.com According to a new Apple support document, starting with iOS 17 and tvOS 17 software updates released Monday, any Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K experiencing problems can be restored using a nearby iPhone.

If there is a problem with Apple TV, the TV will appear black with an iPhone icon on it. At this point, users simply need to unlock their iPhone, hold it close to Apple TV, and follow the recovery steps on the iPhone. When the recovery process is complete, Apple TV restarts.

CTOnews.com notes that this feature is especially useful for Apple TV 4K users because the device doesn't have a USB-C port for wired recovery with Mac. Previously, if there was a problem with Apple TV 4K, users could only contact Apple Support for help, but now users can restore it themselves with iPhone.

In addition to this new feature, tvOS 17 brings other new features, such as the FaceTime app and a redesigned control center.
